Cabañas JAMU, coming from the word Armadillo in Siona, is a beautiful privately owned place with an amazing ecosystem, where our guests can carry out different types of activities. We are located along the Rio Cuyabeno, 15 minutes down river from the amazing Laguna Grande.
FEATURES
Cabañas JAMU consist of 9 cabañas, built in a traditional, rustic style with thatched-roofs. Every cabaña has two rooms, each with a private bathroom, with a possibility to accommodate around 32 people in the entire camp.
All of our cabañas are lit naturally with candles to preserve the feeling of being in a remote jungle. Enjoy a cocktail at the bar in our two-story cabaña, or relax with a beer upstairs in our comfortable hammock lounge. Experience rich, tasty platanos or yuca, traditional foods of the rainforest. As well, we serve lots of fresh veggies and fruits, especially for those vegetarians. Our mix of Ecuadorian and international cuisine will exhilarate your taste buds. But make sure to save room for dessert!
ITINERARIO

Day 1: At 9 a.m., you will be picked up at the Puente de Cuyabeno, where you have to pay the $20 entrance fee for the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. You will then take a motorized canoe down the Cuyabeno River for two hours, which drops you off at the lodge. During the canoe ride you will get a first look at the jungle and will be able to observe different kinds of birds (there are approximately 450 species in Cuyabeno) like Caciques, Oropendolas, Greater Anis and the prehistoric bird “Hoatzin”. You may also be able to see a variety of monkeys and other jungle animals, depending on the time and weather conditions. We will arrive at “Cabañas JAMU” around 12:30pm. At that point, you will be shown to your rooms, have lunch and have a chance to chill out. After a siesta we will leave the camp for a boat ride to the Laguna Grande, where you can swim and watch a beautiful sunset. You will then return to the camp for a delicious dinner, prepared by our own cook. You can finish your first day in the jungle either relaxing in a hammock or having a drink at the bar.
Day 2: After breakfast we will take a hike in the primary forest for 3 to 4 hours, where your guide will explain you the bio-diversity of the tropical rainforest, how flora and fauna co-habitat and how native people make use of the materials found in the rainforest. You will be able to learn about medical plants and might be able to see some exotic birds, monkeys, anacondas, etc.... We will then return to the camp for lunch and a siesta. In the afternoon you have the opportunity to go piranha fishing, have a swim in the lagoon and watch the sunset. With a little luck, you can observe the pink river dolphins or an anaconda sunbathing in a tree. You will return to the camp for dinner, and take a canoe ride at night to look for caimans.
Day 3: After breakfast we will take the canoe down river for an hour to visit a family of the Tarapuy community. You will see how Casabe is prepared, traditional bread made from Yuca (Manioc). You can help prepare the Casabe and see how only materials from the jungle are used in making the bread. While paddling up-stream back to the lodge, you have a better opportunity to see more fauna and flora, and can get a good idea of what an Igapo (flooded) forest looks like. Once in the lodge, you will have a late lunch and time to relax. In the afternoon you will have a last chance to see and enjoy the Laguna Grande. At night, you can go on a nocturnal hike through the primary forest in search of insects, spiders, geckos or scorpions, and listen to the night sounds of the jungle.
Day 4: For those of you, who are willing to get up early to see the sun rise, you are able to go for a morning canoe ride to watch birds. You will return to the camp to have breakfast with the whole group, before you have to pack up and get ready to leave for your return to Quito. You will have lunch either in the lodge or a lunch box with you. We will bring you back to the Cuyabeno Bridge, from where you catch the bus.
