Beginners Birdwatching Tour

What better way to get an introduction to birdwatching than in one of the most biodiverse countries on earth? Come and enjoy this group tour to Yunguilla to explore the world of birding in Ecuador.


We’ve put together a birdwatching tour for beginners, to serve as an introduction to those interested in delving into this fulfilling outdoor activity observing birds in their natural habitat. This time we’ll be visiting the Yunguilla Reserve, an area home to the critically endangered pale-headed brush finch, which can only be visited with permission from the Jocotoco Foundation. After birding, you’ll then enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
You’ll need to be an early bird with a 6 a.m. departure. There’s a three passenger minimum for this tour to depart.

Andean potoo
The Andean potoo is a species of bird from the Nyctibiidae family, only found in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
Little woodstar
The little woodstar is a species of hummingbird found in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru.
Pacific pygmy owl
The pacific Pygmy owl can be found in Ecuador and Peru in subtropical and tropical dry shrubland, moist shrubland and high-altitude shrubland. They have rounded heads without ear-tufts.
Pale-headed brush finch
The pale-headed brush finch is endemic to arid areas with low scrub at altitudes of 1650-1800 meters in south-central Ecuador. Threatened by habit loss and the nest-parasitic shiny cowbird, and most of its tiny range estimated at only 1km2 is within the Yunguilla Reserve.
