Description

This five day Amazon canoe tour in Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is ideal if you’re looking for a taste of Amazon adventure. You will need to be in good physical condition and able to canoe. This tour is only available for over 12s and for a minimum of four persons and a maximum of 10. Reservations must be made at least a month in advance. Four and eight day tours are available on request.

Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Lago Agrio - Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve
Set out at 9:30 am. Transport from Lago Agrio to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve entrance. Canoe down the Cuyabeno River to the Tiger Pass Campsite, enjoying the primary forest on the way. Night walk to spot nocturnal creatures before camping in the midst of the rainforest. Meals included: -/L/D
Day 2 - Laguna Grande Lake
Canoe downstream for 3 – 4 hours until the entrance of Laguna Grande Lake, From here you’ll be transferred by motor canoe to the Magic River Ecolodge where you’ll have lunch. In the afternoon you’ll explore the flooded forest (igapó) in Laguna Grande Lake to come up close to the marvelous Macrolobium trees. You’ll even get the chance to swim in the lake and enjoy the sunset. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 3 - Jungle Hike & Cuyabeno River
Take a long guided walk through primary forest (3-4 hours) to learn about the local plants and ecosystem. After taking a rest at the camp, you’ll then take an excursion on the Cuyabeno River. After dark you’ll do some caiman watching. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 4 - Tarapuya Indigenous Community
Canoe down the Cuyabeno River to Puerto Victoriano, a Siona indigenous community. Here you’ll learn about the Siona culture and lifestyle: making bread from manioc root in a family home and visiting the local shaman (if he’s available). During the afternoon you’ll take a motor canoe back to the lodge. Possible visit to Laguna Grande Lake in the evening. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 5 - Cuyabeno River & Return to Lago Agrio
Early morning canoe ride along the Cuyabeno River for some bird-watching. Return to camp for breakfast. Return trip by motor canoe. Private transport to Lago Agrio (arrive at 3pm). Meals included: B/L/-
