If you’ve always wanted to explore the best of the Galapagos islands, but you don’t have great sea legs, then this land-based island-hopping tour could be exactly what you’re looking for. This adventure tour will take you to San Cristobal, Isabela and Santa Cruz Islands, enjoying a variety of activities and showing you the best the islands have to offer, in the ever-capable hands of a bilingual naturalist guide.

Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival at San Cristobal Island - Hiking & Snorkeling
Arrival from the mainland to San Cristobal. Check in at Hostería Pimampiro or similar. Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon hike at Cerro Tijeretas to see frigate birds nesting. You’ll also visit a small lagoon ideal for snorkeling filled with fish and marine life. Visit to Interpretation Center and Galapaguera to see giant tortoises in captivity. Finally, relax at Playa Mann, a white sandy beach with clear water great for snorkeling. Dinner at local restaurant. Meals included: -/L/D
Day 2 - San Cristobal Island - Snorkeling & Swimming
Morning navigation to Leon Dormido (Kicker Rock), one of the most spectacular landmarks on the Galapagos Islands, and a great place to spot sea lions, frigate birds and blue-footed boobies. Here you’ll get to snorkel with sharks, tropical fish, spotted eagle rays, hammerhead sharks, marine turtles and sea lions. Visit a white sandy beach to swim with sea lions. Dinner at local restaurant. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 3 - San Cristobal & Santa Cruz Islands - Hiking
Departure to Santa Cruz by public boat after breakfast. Arrival and lunch at Aventura Lodge. Afternoon hike to Los Gemelos (The Twins), two enormous collapsed lava chambers which are a fabulous introduction to the biodiversity of Santa Cruz highlands. Visit to private reserve to see giant Galapagos tortoises in their natural habitat. Visit a 450-meter illuminated lava tunnel to see lava stalagmites, stalactites, sulfur, mineral-colored walls and rippled lava floor. Dinner at the hotel. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 4 - Santa Cruz & Isabela Islands - Sea kayaking & snorkeling
Morning excursion to the Itabaca Channel to have a quick lesson in sea kayaking. Kayak along the northern shore of Santa Cruz Island, exploring the channel separating Santa Cruz from Baltra Island and spotting sea birds in the shore cliffs. You can even snorkel from the kayak amongst sea lions, green sea turtles and tropical fish. Lunch at hotel. Afternoon travel to Isabela Island. Check in at lodge. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 5 - Isabela Island - Hiking & snorkelling
Early morning departure to Sierra Negra Volcano via the humid Isabela highlands, the second largest active creater in the world. Hike around the crater and snack at the Jaboncillo tree. If you have enough energy you can continue to Volcan Chico to view the amazing lava formations to be doing there. Lunch at local farm. Afternoon visit to Concha Perla site to walk amongst the mangroves and even snorkel from the dock in this lagoon-like bay with sea lions, green turtles and schools of tropical fish. Visit to Muro de las Lagrimas (Wall of Tears), a unique construction built by prisoners of a penal colony centuries ago. You’ll see many lava lizards on your walk. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 6 - Isabela Island - Snorkeling & Hiking
After breakfast you’ll head for Los Tuneles on a 45 minute boat ride. Visit to Roca Union on the way to spot masked boobies, blue-footed boobies, marine iguanas, sea lions and fur seals from the boat. Los Tuneles is a breathtaking site formed by lava arches on the water. You’ll tour the site by boat and go snorkeling. Lunch at lodge. Afternoon visit of the Galapagos National Park Isabela Breeding Station to learn about the Galapagos tortoise. Hike along the Isabela wetlands watching for flamingos and stunning seabirds. Visit Playa del Amor (Love Beach) to enjoy the sandy beach surrounded by mangroves. Dinner at lodge. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 7 - Isabela & Santa Cruz Islands - Hiking & Snorkeling
Bay tour to view blue-footed boobies and Galapagos penguins. Take a walk through jagged lava field, passing marine iguanas and sea lions, and even shallow waters full of resting white-tipped reef sharks. Snorkel in warm, shallow bay surrounded by mangroves. Lunch at lodge. Departure to Santa Cruz Island. Guided tour of Charles Darwin Research Station. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 8 - Departure
Early departure from Santa Cruz to Baltra for flight to mainland. Meals included: B/L/D
