Kapawi Ecolodge is a hugely successful community-based eco-tourism project which has been internationally recognized with several awards. The project is run by the indigenous Achuar group within a huge 700,000 hectare reserve located near the Peruvian border in the south eastern Ecuadorian Amazon on the Pastanza River. The closest road is 10-days walk away and Kapawi is only accessible by air.
18 traditional thatched cabins on stilts have been tastefully decorated to accommodate up to 38 guests. This is the perfect base camp for exploring the area and Kapawi Ecolodge offers a wide variety of activities from Achuar community visits, camping, night walks, canoe rides, kayaking and birdwatching amongst the vast array of over 570 species of birds. There are also optional extra activities such as a candlelit private river cruise, romantic ceremony, Achuar wedding ceremony or even a Natem ceremony accompanied by a local Shaman to taste the infusion of the Ayahuasca plant.
At TerraDiversa, we recommend five day excursions into the rainforest for first time visitors to give you enough time to really experience the jungle, as the first and last days will be taken up mostly by travel. Kapawi lodge also offers four and eight day excursions.
