Macas & Surroundings

For those of you exploring southern Ecuador, this Amazon tour of Macas and its surroundings is an introductory tour to the area and a way to get a taste of the rainforest while staying in contact with civilization.

This tour offers an introductory Amazon tour based in Macas. Over four days you’ll get the chance to get to know the city and its surroundings, visiting Shuar communities, local attractions (such as the Cueva de los Tayos and a local waterfall) and enjoying cultural displays of music and dancing.
The southern Amazon has only recently begun to market itself as a tourist destination which can often lead to very authentic jungle experiences for very reasonable prices. But, this also means that there is a less developed (and comfortable) tourist infrastructure and as it is an inhabited area, there is little of chance of seeing some of the larger or rarer jungle creatures in the wild.
