Highlights

Papallacta
Papallacta, a small town in the Napo Province of Ecuador on the eastern flanks of the Ecuadorian Andes leading down into the Amazon, is located at 3300 meters and lies in the shadow of Antisana volcano. Only an hour from Quito, Papallacta is known for its hot sprint and steamed trout, but few know that the area provides Quito with about 60% of its water supply. The town is surrounded by páramo landscape, inhabited by marvelous Andean flora and fauna, including the Andean condor, Ecuador’s national bird, spectacled bears and tapirs. It is a great area for hiking, and there are both public and private baths, whose water is thermally heated by the subterranean activity of the 5758m Antisana Volcano. The minerals in the springs are said to have natural healing qualities.
