It is easily accessible by road (5 hours drive) and fits in perfectly for those wanting to do the Quito-Amazon-Baños loop before continuing on to southern Ecuador. It is also ideal if you’re seeking comfort, contact with civilization or a little wary of visiting areas deeper inside the rainforest. This area is also ideal if you like water sports and rafting.

Sample itinerary (Cotococha Lodge)
Day 1 - Arrival
Afternoon arrival, realization, dinner, welcome drink around fireplace to discuss next day’s activities. Meals included: -/-/D
Day 2 - AmaZOOnico & Quichua family visit
Canoe ride down Napo River to Misahualli to check papers before continuing to Arajuno River to visit Animal Rescue Center AmaZOOnico. Picnic lunch on river shore. Take a swim or relax before heading back to the lodge, stopping on route to visit a Quichua family to learn about their culture and customs. Short hike followed by dinner and relaxation. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 3 - Hiking & Waterfall visit
Hike through secondary rainforest to reach Las Latas waterfall for a refreshing swim. Return to lodge for lunch. In the afternoon take a 3-hour jungle hike and find out about the local flora and fauna, and medicinal plants. Dinner and relaxation. Meals included: B/L/D
Day 4 - Departure
Departure after breakfast. Meals included: B/-/-

*National: Some lodges provide discounted prices for nationals. Anyone with an Ecuadorian Cédula is entitled to national rates. But keep in mind that nationals do need to pay Value Added Tax (V.A.T. 12%) which is added to the total price.
** Transport: Some lodges provide transport packages from Quito, but you can make your way to Tena (5 hours from Quito) independently either by bus or using private transportation. Please check when you make your booking.
